FBI director James Comey testified he felt “mildly nauseous” that he may have helped get Trump elected when he reopened the probe into Hillary Clinton right at the tail end of the election. Donald Trump then did what any self respecting President would do, he fired James Comey. The craziest part is that Comey learned of the firing not from the letter that’s been making the rounds, but through a television in the background as he spoke to some FBI colleagues. As he spoke was speaking to a few FBI employees in LA a news reports flashed on a television saying that James Comey had been fired as FBI director, which he believed to be a prank. The letter from Trump on Comey’s firing had not reached the FBI offices yet and Comey was subsequently told of the firing soon after.
President Trump is not shy about firing anybody as we have seen through his first 100+ days of office. Some of the firings were necessary but some, like Comey, came quickly. So why exactly did Trump let the director go?

This is in contrast with the way Donald Trump praised Comey after reopening the investigation a few weeks before the election. It seems like this is a headline grabbing move meant to steer the conversation away from the current investigation into the Trump-Russia ties and it will definitely work for 24-48 hours as new details come out but this will play badly for Trump. It shows a very scary part of this administration as the FBI is investigating the Trump-Russia ties and has now lost the director in charge of the investigation. It doesn’t even seem legal or ethical to do so at this point but it happened. Let’s see where this story goes but this is a very scary situation happening right before our eyes.
What do you think? Distraction? Stifling the investigation? Or just something that needed to be done?
