Floyd Mayweather is ready for his big fight on May 5th. Now all he needs is an opponent. We hoped this to be the day Mayweather/Pacquiao finally happens. Instead we get some more tap dancing by Pacquiaos promoter, Top Ranks Bob Arum who says May 5th is no good and June 9th is better.

Mayweather made two tweets calling out Pacquiao. The first tweet read “@FloydMayweather Manny Pacquiao I’m calling you out let’s fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see.” One minute later, Mayweather followed with a second tweet, “@FloydMayweather My Jail Sentence was pushed back because the date was locked in. Step up Punk.” Even 50 Cent got in on the action retweeting Money Mays last tweet and adding “@50cent: Now every body knows who ducking”

Mayweather was due to report to the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas last Friday to begin an 87 day prison sentence. He pleaded guilty to a reduced battery domestic violence charge and no contest to two harassment charges, stemming from an incident with his ex-girlfriend in front of two of their children. Mayweather convinced the court to postpone his sentence until June 1st since he had a big fight scheduled for May 5 that would help stimulate the struggling Las Vegas economy.

When Mayweather was supposed to go to jail last week, Arum talked about Pacquiao fighting on May 5 to take the spot of Mayweather. Then the next day when it was learned Mayweather’s sentence was delayed, Arum said Pacquiao would probably have to fight in June, blaming a cut Pacquiao suffered in his November majority decision win against Juan Manuel Marquez. Of course it makes perfect sense that you need six months to recover from a cut.

Arum is pushing for a June 9th fight but with Mayweather scheduled to go in on June 1 it seems like another excuse for the fight not to happen. There seems to be no real roadblock in the May 5th date except Arums desire for s bigger venue.

Clarification came from Arum that the MGM Grand where the May 5th fight would happen is too small a venue for such a mega-fight a difference in about $40 million according to Arum. A temporary outdoor arena to hold 50k, as opposed to the 17k at the Grand, is being built and the earliest it would be completed is late May. Pacquiao stated he wants to fight and opened up late May as a possible time for the fight to happen.

This all adds to the back and forth trash talking that Mayweather was ducking Pacquiao and Pacquiao was ducking Mayweather. Make the fight happen. Who do you got? Money-May or the Pac-Man?
