Originally the Obama administration had some exemptions for churches, but the exemptions did not extend to catholic run hospitals and schools. The President came out and stated those institutions would no longer have to pay for the coverage, passing on the responsibility to the actual insurance companies. The coverage would still be there for employees working for religious-based employers and the employer is no longer responsible for footing the bill.

It was a compromise that the President was quick and willing to make seeing the merits in the argument. Many catholic groups are satisfied with the resolution, but some are still fighting to be fully exempted. This is where the President has drawn the line. This falls as an option to the employee whether they wish to take d since the employers no longer need torry about paying for it they should let it go.

The right has tried to frame this argument as an attack on religion, but in reality this is there attack on birth control. A fight they lost long ago and continue to fight on. The compromise on the exemptions no longer makes it a religion issue.

Most Catholic women are in favor of birth control but with the improving economy the GOP needs something to attack President Obama on. While I can understand the reasoning behind the attack I just do not understand the grounds they have chosen to fight on.
