I recently took a trip to Paris, France (in case you confused it with Paris, Texas) and can tell you that if you have a chance to do it jump on it. The city of Paris is populated with more than two million people plus all the tourists that come from all around the world. My guide will be explaining to you the best way to ensure that you have an amazing trip without spending a small fortune. Here are a few tips to get you started on booking your trip.
1. Research it all, which should go without saying, but there are so many aspects to consider. From the days you are actually online researching fares to the specific days of the week that you travel. Everything is about timing. Fares are higher when you do your research on the weekends because most people are researching and booking their trips on weekends. This means that if you are researching in the middle of the week, Monday-Wednesday, you may save some change. Also, there are the days that you book to actually fly. Booking a flight that leaves on a weekend will be more expensive than in the middle of the week. My flight left Miami International Airport on a Wednesday which was a much better fare than any other day of the week. People usually fly between Friday and Sunday, tailing off on Monday to Wednesday then picking up a little on Thursday heading into the weekend. If you plan to take a trip to Europe, understand you aren’t the only person with the same plans and you have to, in a way, compete with these other people.
2. Travel Off-Season: Choose a time when tourism is a little slower than usual to the city like I did. At the end of October, which was when my flight was, the trip was much cheaper than a month earlier or the hassles of the holiday prices a month later. It was a nice 65 degree Fahrenheit average at the time with a couple days that dipped kinda low. All in all the temperature was nice and fresh compared to the always humid temperature of Miami.
3. Timing is Everything, which means that you should have your flight booked a few months in advance. When you are within three weeks of the flight the airlines tend to raise prices so whatever you do, do not wait to the last minute. I actually booked my flight six months in advance but that was because I wanted to place it on my credit card and have it paid off by the time of the flight. I also did the same with the hotel which I booked three months in advance of my trip and paid off. I actually noticed a smarter way to go about the trips and that’s by looking for packages. At the time of my research I was not interested in any of the packages I saw. In hindsight, there could possibly have been a much better deal out there with a package deal but hey, you live and you learn and you pass it on the next generation, which is you. So look for package deals that may save you a lot of hassle but read them carefully. I saw too many red flags in the ones I saw, from hotels that looked blah to very strict restrictions. Don’t get caught by surprise.

4. Booking does not end with flight and hotel. There are so many things to do in Paris that you would need a month to do everything. I bought tickets to an open tour bus for the first three full days I was out there. I will go more into detail on the tour and what I thought about it in a future post. For now, just know that it was an easy way to see a lot of the city and know where all the important spots are to see. You can hop on and off at the various stops if you want to walk around. I recommend doing it in order to get yourself situated with the surroundings of the city.
5. Learn the Language, and I cannot stress this enough. You know how people say that they absolutely hate Americans in France? Well, I cann shenanigans. I really only ran across one or two not-so-pleasant people during my trip and one of them had a legitimate gripe to roll their eyes. I don’t know if it is the American send of entitlement, but the people of Paris were extremely nice and patient with me when they saw that I had a very small limited French vocabulary. I also speak Spanish which seemed to shock some of them. I ran into a handful of people that spoke Spanish, I guess because of how close Spain is.
These are five small tips but in the next few weeks I will be posting much more on my trip to Paris. Stay tuned and comment if you have any questions.
