The city of Paris is a huge sprawling locale with so much to do that you more than likely will not have time to get it all in. So of course you have to pick your spots when it comes to sightseeing. I spent over a week there and left so many places off my itinerary. I just didn’t have the time. So here I will provide you a list of the top five MUST SEE’s of Paris, in my opinion. These are the places that I feel must be seen if visiting Paris, especially on a once in a lifetime type trip.
5. The “Love Lock” Bridge(s): Alas, I do not know if this even deserves to be on this list anymore. The city of Paris is no longer in love with their tourist attraction where lovers from far and wide come to attach a padlock on the bridge railing to signify their love before throwing the key into the River Seine. The city has stated that the extra weight from all the locks as well as the keys thrown into the river is damaging the area. Parisians, are supposedly mostly against the tradition calling it vandalism. The city has taken steps to soon end the practice as they have begun to replace the railings with a thick glass. So why is it number 5 on my list? Well, if you can possibly still participate in the practice then do so before it’s officially gone forever with only pictures and stories to pass on to the next generation.
4. The Avenue des Champs-Elysees: The street is highly regarded as some of the most expensive real estate in the world with so many high end stores as well as after hours spots. You can shop during the day and party at the clubs at night. This is a must see to me because it was truly a beautiful stretch of land to walk. Sure, I only walked into the stores and walked right back out empty handed, I’m not the Monopoly Guy after all, but it was still a fun stroll. There are restaurants up and down the block with good food at high prices. While every site said how the food was so overpriced I really have a different view. I tend to see it from this stance. In Miami when you go to South Beach, you’re going to pay more than when you’re in the normal areas. So while the prices were higher than normal for the food and drinks, it wasn’t some insane amount. Great atmosphere and if you’re into celebrity watching, this is the place to go.

3. The Catacombs of Paris: Oh my god, let me tell you that when I went out to the Catacombs it was a four hour wait in line. In 60 degree windy weather. I went on a Thursday first thing in the morning. The Catacombs opened at 10, I was there at 9:45 expecting a line but when I got off the subway and saw the line winding around the small park I knew I was in trouble. Anyway, moral of the story is to prepare to wait in line. The Catacombs if Paris is an underground ossuary housing the remains of over 6 million people. I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect as I did not want to spoil anything by reading too much or seeing pictures. After going down some steps then further through some tunnels the entrance to the tombs was in front of us. Translated to English the doorway had the following etched into it: “Stop! Here lies the Empire of Death” and boy was it huge. The Catacombs in its entirety is a 200-mile network of tunnels and caves originally used for mining. Most of the 200-mile network is off-limits to the public but there is a section for tourists and it’s very weird to walk through rooms that have walls made entirely of bones and skulls. At first it was kind of cool and then it just felt dark and chilling. If you’re into scary movies, this is a great place for you. It’s creepy and the sheer length is amazing. It’s not for everyone, but it will give you one heck of a story to tell.
2. The Eiffel Tower: You just can’t come to Paris and not see this beautiful 1000 foot tall work of iron art. One of the first things I made sure to have booked was my ticket to the summit of the tower. There are three levels you can go on the tower, with some of it accessible by either lift or stairs and the summit only reachable by lift. You can take stairs to cut through the line of people waiting for the lift, and climb 300-steps to the first level. 300 more steps await if you want to climb from the first to the second level. Then at that point you make the line to take the lift to the summit. Do not wait too long to get your tickets as they sell out very quickly. You need to get tickets that get you access to the first and second levels, then a separate ticket that gets you access to the summit. Please, make sure to have the tickets bought and printed ready to present. The view from the top of the tower is beautiful and you can walk around to see the entire city. The Eiffel Tower is one of the wonders of the world . Oh, you thought this would make number 1 did you?
1. The Louvre Museum: Whether, we’re talking about ancient Greek sculptures like the Venus De Milo or famous paintings like the Mona Lisa, the Louvre is packed with some of the most jaw dropping works of art in history. I am not the biggest art fanatic, but even I was overwhelmed by some of the pieces. Some of the paintings are taller than my house. The entire museum will take an entire day to really go through which is exactly what I did. First I targeted the main players, making sure to hit them first and then roam throughout to cover the rest. Prepare for a lot of sculptures with male genitalia hanging about. Fun times for the ladies. The crowd around the most famous painting, the Mona Lisa, was nothing short of hectic. I expertly weaved my way into a seam and didn’t look back. I kept moving my feet once inside the pile trying to ease my way closer. I was quick and efficient as I quickly made it through the horde. Once in the front I felt a little guilty because I am so tall, I knew the people behind me were silently cursing me under their breath trying to look around me. I made it to the front and got to take a selfie with the most famous selfie, the Mona Lisa. I checked out the painting encased behind a bulletproof glass then went on my way to allow those behind me the chance at their own moment to shine. This one was mine though.
